Synaptic Chiropractic - Westbrook, ME

Have you looked at our office’s name “Synaptic” and thought: “what does that mean!?!?”

You aren’t alone! People often ask me what the name stands for and then gift me with an opportunity to not only teach them a new word–but to teach them what my office does!

Synaptic comes from the word ‘synapse.’ But what is a synapse?

According to the dictionary, a synapse is: “The small junction across which a nerve impulse passes from one nerve cell to another nerve cell, a muscle cell, or a gland cell.”
Still confused? Let’s make it more simple! A synapse is where two brain cells (neurons) communicate with each other. It is how information is shared!

So what does synapses have to do with Chiropractic? EVERYTHING! Chiropractic works by improving communication in your body. It’s base on stimulating or inhibiting certain areas of the brain/spinal cord. By stimulating proper brain wave patterns and bringing attention to areas in need, Chiropractic can optimize your brain function. Since your brain controls every organ, cell and tissue in your body–it only makes sense to make sure its doing its job efficiently.

A Synapse:

But what does “Myelinated” mean?!

Myelin is a covering for neurons (brain cells) that allow them to communicate at a faster speed. Thanks to myelin, information can travel up to 268 MILES PER HOUR within the body! (Which is a good thing–it helps you remove that hand from a hot stove before you burn it even more!)

The goal of my “Myelinated Monday” blog is to transfer as much important information to you as fast as possible! Education is power and my goal is to empower you to take control of your health and your life.

Shine on,

Dr. Ella
